Kashpoint Performance 2004
For some people these would be the kind of images that might come back to haunt. But I love them! They are from 2004 and my friend Kabir, just posted them on Facebook.
Note my disco-ball shoes in the first picture. I made them specially for the performance which took place at Kashpoint.
Here's a close-up of the shoes! Click to see them up close....

The Centre for Multidox Theories
"Oh, if only it were possible to find understanding," Joseph exclaimed. "If only there were a dogma to believe in. Everything is contradictory, everything tangential; there are no certainties anywhere. Everything can be interpreted one way and then again interpreted in the opposite sense. The whole of world history can be explained as development and progress and can also be seen as nothing but decadence and meaninglessness. Isn't there any truth? Is there no real and valid doctrine?"
The master had never heard him speak so fervently. He walked on in silence for a little, then said: "There is truth, my boy. But the doctrine you desire, absolute, perfect dogma that alone provides wisdom, does not exist. Nor should you long for a perfect doctrine, my friend. Rather, you should long for the perfection of yourself. The diety is within you, not in ideas and books. Truth is lived, not taught. Be prepared for conflicts, Joseph Knecht - I can see that they already have begun."
-Hermann Hesse, The Glass Bead Game.

OPTIMISM - The Art of Our Time
Image: James Balmforth "DO NOT TIGHTEN" 2008 (Tarnished brass and 22 carat gold cast figure)
For the duration of this years Frieze week I have curated with the Hannah Barry Gallery a show of optimistic art and a book of essays entitled:
OPTIMISM - The Art of our Times
Through an unequivocally sincere take on the theme the show takes a determined stand against cynicism and apathy. If you haven't made it to any of my recent shows, this is a chance to see the culmination of my ideas and workings from the last few years.
The show is open from the 15th-20th October from 8am-8pm daily at the Hannah Barry Gallery. You can find us here.
The very regular train to Peckham Rye takes 5 mins from London Bridge and 10mins from Victoria.
There will be a special party 8pm-midnight on Friday the 17th, please join us to celebrate.

Francis Bacon on Optimism
"My impulse is my life, my impulse is that I am an old man, but I am profoundly optimistic about nothing."
How can you be optimistic about nothing Francis?
"I can be. Just existing. For a moment. Just existing today makes me optimistic."
Optimistic about what?
"Nothing. I am optimistic about nothing. I am just born with that optimistic nature, I'm just optimistic about nothing."

Ebe Oke on Interconnected Echoes
Its been a while since I updated my other blog. It seems it takes people a while to answer such epic questions. Thankfully the overtalented and ever-eccentric whirlwind musician, artist, poet and visionary Ebe Oke has supplied some incredible answers in his interview.

The FUTURE Radio Show
I'm living in the FUTURE.
On Saturday afternoon I hosted a live radio show with some of my friends. The show functioned as an extension of the weekly artists salon I run. This time including discussion, live music and specially recorded sound-pieces.
Whilst our attitudes and opinions towards them remain separate, several collective concerns have emerged at the salon. There is a general mood and consensus that the FUTURE is something that we not only can, but must, shape with creativity and intelligence.
It was exciting to hear these thoughts expressed and to have them recorded so that people who don't attend the salon can engage with it too.
Download the show (2 hours: 281mb)
I will be doing another music orientated show on Wednesday 1st October at 10pm.

The Death of Post-Modernism
A pattern has emerged at the regular artist's salon I host. It seems that each week we end up talking about the death of post-modernism.
Last week we ordered and ate this chocolate cake. We concluded that this does not make us a post-modern group. Many stated sincerely that we are not.
